An Overview of Mike Jipping's Research Program
My research interests combine
networking and handheld computers in several ways. There are
three branches to my research interests:
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks and
Parallel Programming
In this area, mobile networks that form
on an ad hoc basis -- that is, dynamically by contacting each other --
are used to form the basis for a computing platform of parallel
devices. Unsolved issues here include communication protocols,
routing and connection strategies, object and service advertisement,
and dynamic client computation tolerance.
Operating Systems for Mobile
Phones
Here, issues involve design of
operating systems that take advantage of and provide access to the
unique features of handheld, mobile phones.
Using Handheld Computers in the
Classroom
In this area, we investigate how to
appropriately use handheld computers to enhance learning in the
Computer Science curriculum. We have applied handheld devices to
several courses, include Computer Organization, Operating Systems, and
Networking.
